Understanding
Our Differences, Inc.
Understanding Our Differences, Inc. is a nonprofit organization
working to increase information, understanding and acceptance of
people with disabilities and individual differences.
Since 1978, Understanding Our Differences has touched the lives
of thousands of children and adults in Newton, Massachusetts through
the delivery of a unique and creative disability awareness curriculum
in collaboration with the Newton Public Schools.
This award-winning program has been disseminated to more than 200
schools and organizations nationwide.

Educator
The Disability Awareness Institute
Based on its long-term success, Understanding Our Differences established The Disability Awareness Institute to extend its reach. The Institute provides training and consultation to employers, educators, and government and private organizations. Its goal is to help clients include and serve people with disabilities effectively and with respect.
Leadership
A diverse and dedicated Board of Directors governs Understanding Our Differences and The Disability Awareness Institute. The Board includes individuals with and without disabilities: educators, medical professionals, community leaders, parents of children with disabilities, and leaders of disability service organizations. A Medical Advisory Board of physicians ensures that all information used in the program is current and medically accurate.

25th Anniversary Celebration
In November 2004, more than 350 educators, alumni, parent leaders
and friends gathered to celebrate Understanding Our Differences’
25th anniversary.
Highlights of the event included an address by MSNBC’s Chris
Matthews, the presentation of leadership awards to educator Dr.
David A. Ticchi and business leader Roger Berkowitz, and recognition
of the organization’s thirteen past presidents. |
